If you want the quintessential Zelda in it’s blueprint, 2D form, I recommend starting with ALttP– It’s everything the original Zelda couldn’t be and is very playable even today. I have a couple of recommendations depending on the type of gamer of where to start. Zelda is for everyone, so a beginner can start just about anywhere and usually have a good time. Don’t make someone who is new to the series, probably a child, suffer through bad graphics and old cables , probably a broken controller… Realise the power that nostalgia has and that this person doesn’t have any of it. If they like Breath of the Wild, then they can play Ocarina of Time.
ALTTP DX is a collection of small QoL improvements and bug fixes. These include the ability to switch between items by pressing L/R and making pots breakable with the sword. You can also use the blade to collect items that are otherwise out of reach. This is the Japan version of the game and can be played using any of the GBA.
